Vernon E. Lovell, 85, of Greensboro, GA, formerly of Osage Beach, MO and Springfield, IL passed away on April 10, 2013 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born in Springfield, IL on October 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles and Thelma Lovell. He attended Lanphier High School. In Springfield, he worked for Allis Chalmers and then for Certified Equipment Manufacturing Co. While at Certified he worked as the manager of the warehouse and worked his way up to Vice President of Sales. He was on the Board of Directors for Certified and belonged to the National Fertilizer Association of Peoria and Springfield. He was also a life long member of the Elks Lodge. Vern served in the 17th Army Infantry in Korea as a Corporal Mortar Gunner during World War II and received the Victory Medal with an Honorable Discharge in 1947. He loved fishing for crappie.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, two daughters, Kathy (Richard) Matthews of Greensboro, GA and Rita (Jim) Kelley of Florence, TX; sisters, Alma LaFauce, Donna Douglas and Sandy (Rick) Skrele; brother, Ron (Lou) Lovell all of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles V. and Thelma Lovell; son, Russell Lovell; Ann Knobbs Lovell; sisters, Carol Lovell and Joann Pierce; and brothers, Charles J. and John (Jack).
A Memorial Service will be held, Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Lake Oconee Parkway NE, Eatonton, GA 31024, Telephone 706-485-4600. with Pastor Ron Schornhorst officiating.
