Vera Jackson Marchman, age 95, of Greensboro, GA, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. Born in Greene County on October 6, 1912 she was the last of eleven children born to the late William Frank Jackson and Mattie Lay Jackson. As a child she attended school in Siloam and in 1933 married George Thomas Marchman. They lived in the Veazey Community and in 1976 moved on the Athens Highway in Greensboro. She was a homemaker and a member of Walker United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Marchman was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Marchman in May of 1985; four sisters, Lena Walker, Hattie Chapman, Eva Adams, and Leila Adams; six brothers; Johnnie Jackson, Jessie Jackson, Grady Jackson, Briggs Jackson, Leon Jackson and Lewis Jackson; and a grand-daughter, Suzanne Marchman. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Byce and husband Murrell of Greensboro, GA and Martha Channell and husband Tom of Greensboro, GA; a son, George M. Marchman and wife Terry of Hope Mills, NC; two grandsons, Wesley Byce and wife Tammy of Newnan, GA and Brian Marchman and wife Cindi of Goose Creek, SC; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. John Pike and Rev. David Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in the Siloam Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ray Channell, L. G. Boswell, Ben Boswell, Francis Byce, Andrew Boswell, Mike Boyer, Thomas Edwards and Dan Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are W. H. Rhodes Jr., Irby Gorman, Morris Farmer, Harry Singer, Deleon Walker, Bobby Voyles, Emmett Caldwell and Fred Hunter Jr. The family requests that any memorials be made to Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642.
