Robert Julian Patterson, age 67, of Greensboro, GA, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Dwight Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, GA. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born on December 7, 1943 in Greensboro, GA to the late Quince Rowland "Pat" Patterson and Myrtle Elizabeth Atkinson Patterson. Julian attended Greensboro High School and joined the United States Army in 1960, serving his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. For a while, he worked for the Magnolia Gas Station and after marrying Betty Jo Vandiver on July 18, 1964 in McCormick, SC, he began working for Georgia Power as the overseer of the building of Lake Oconee Parks. He then started his own business in 1983 building docks on Lake Oconee and continued until his death. He enjoyed bird hunting, deer hunting and collecting arrowheads.
Julian was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Vandiver Patterson, on November 9, 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Kim Patterson Gunn and husband Joel of Greensboro, GA; two brothers, Jimmy Patterson and wife Shirley of Gurley, AL and Chris Patterson and wife Ramona of Macon, GA; two grandchildren, Hannah Gunn and Joshua Gunn; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services, with military honors, will be held Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greensboro City Cemetery with Rev. Tim Tabler officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Dale Barnette, Mitch Kimbrough, Rob Kimbrough, Tracy Jordan, Eric Higdon and Tommy Underwood. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday night at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
