Rachel Yancey Duvall

On November 1, 2014, Rachel Yancey Duvall passed away at her residence.  Rachel was born January 7, 1936 in Atlanta Georgia.  She was the daughter of Delos Harley Yancey Sr. and Raymond and Bobbie Pertile.  Rachel traveled extensively as an army brat growing up in Florida, Mississippi, Texas, Tokyo, Japan and Georgia.  Rachel graduated from Smith High School, Atlanta GA, in 1953 and Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing in 1956.  She married and moved to Greene County in 1960.  As a nurse, she worked at Minnie G. Boswell Hospital, as a Greene County School Nurse, and at the Greene County Health Department.  After 40 plus years of service to the nursing profession, she retired in 2002.  Her last job was head nurse of the Greene County Health Department.  Ms. Rachel was known for her work in the community and served as one of the original board members for the Circle of Love, an Adult and Children Domestic Abuse Shelter.  As an active member of the Baptist faith, she worked as president of the WMU, Sunday school teacher, Bible Study teacher, choir member, and Vacation Bible School Director.  Ms. Rachel was a longtime supporter of Nathanael Greene Academy, serving on numerous committees and volunteering countless hours.  Ms. Rachel enjoyed reading, cheering on local sports teams and visiting with her grandchildren, friends and family members.

She was preceded in death by her father, Delos Yancey; her mother, Bobbie Pertile; and step- father, Ray Pertile.   She is survived by her brother, Delos Yancey, Jr. of Rome, GA; her children, Ray Duvall of Greensboro, GA, Amy Davis of Eaton, GA, and Jan and Tim Davison of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren, CJ Whitehead, Alma Duvall, Patrick Davis, John  Davis, Lyndsey Davison, Ryan Davison and KC Butler; nieces, Cindy Sonam and Cheryl Yancey; and nephew, Dee Yancey III and wife Molly. She was also blessed with many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, many friends and other family members.  

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 4, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Mike Pritchett and Dr. Larry Davison officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642.  In lieu of flowers the family request that donations can be made to Nathanael Greene Academy, Grandparents Club, P O Box 109, Siloam GA 30665 or the Circle Of Love Domestic Abuse Shelter,  P O Box 641, Greensboro, GA.  The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers who helped to keep her at home, Annie Jones, Annette Redd, Judy Merritt and Mary Rowland.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
