Owen Oliver Scott, Jr

Owen Oliver Scott, Jr., of Union Point, Georgia, died Monday, December 27, 2010 on his 94th birthday. Mr. Scott retired as Superintendent at Chipman Union Manufacturing where he had worked for 33 years. A lifelong resident of Union Point, he was born on December 27, 1916, the son of the late Owen Oliver Scott, Sr. and Henrietta Buist Scott. He was a graduate of Union Point High School class of 1935 and a graduate of Georgia Tech with a BS in Textile Engineering in 1940. During World War II, he served in the training command in the United States Army Air Corp as a Captain at the Navigation School in Monroe, Louisiana for three years. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point, he served as Elder and held many other positions in the church. Mr. Scott had rendered more than fifty years of service to the Union Point Lions Club and had been a Master Mason for more than fifty years at the Chapell Lodge #511 of Union Point and the Royal Arch Masons #154 of Greensboro.

He is survived by his loving wife, Delle Morgan Scott, of Union Point, Georgia; step-mother, Martha Binns Scott of Greensboro, Georgia; two sons, Owen Oliver "Scotty" Scott, III and James M. "Jimmy" Scott, both of Union Point, Georgia; a special niece, Jamie Himebaugh Smith and husband Mike of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Chad Delan Scott of Marbleton, Wyoming, John Owen Scott and wife Deirdre of Sarasota, Florida, Tara Eden Scott Kendall and husband John of Jacksonville, Florida and Buck Andreu Scott of Miami, Florida; four great grandchildren, Sage Taylor Scott, Madilynn Delle Scott, John Owen Scott Jr. all of Sarasota, Florida, and Nora Grace Kendall of Jacksonville, Florida; and a wide circle of friends who loved and admired him. He was preceded in death by a sister, Caroline Scott Griffin in 1987.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point with Rev. Dr. James Choomack and Rev. Stephen Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, 1423 N. Rhodes Street, Union Point, Georgia 30669. Serving as pallbearers are Lanier Rhodes, Trey Rhodes, John Rhodes, Sibley Bryan, Dave Heffner, Tim Bramlett and J Boswell. Honorary pallbearers are the Elders of The First Presbyterian Church of Union Point and Henry Sisson. The family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Veazey Street, Union Point, GA 30669.
