Michael Timothy “Mike” Griffith of Union Point, GA, died Friday, July 29, 2016 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, GA.  A lifelong resident of Greene County Michael was born on June 6, 1961 to Betty Worthen Griffith of Union Point, GA and the late John Franklin Griffith.  He graduated from Greensboro High school.  For many years he worked at Chipman Union in Union Point over Quality Management and later served as plant manager at Lincoln Lumber.  Along with his family he help to operate B & B Quick Stop in Union Point for a number of years.  For six years he worked for both the City of Greensboro and the City of Union Point as a police officer which he dearly loved.  His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and target practicing.  He also enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodwork.  Michael was a longtime member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point. 

In addition to his mother Betty Worthen Griffith of Union Point, GA, he is survived by his wife, Kim Easton Griffith of Union Point, GA; daughters, Rebecca Mency (Chris) of Cordele, GA, Carla Chapman (Duane) of Macon, GA, Christie Vandiver (Kyle) of Greensboro, GA; sons, Jonathan Hooks (Sarah) of Alaska, Michael Easton (Briana) of Union Point, GA; brother, Joey Griffith of Union Point, GA; eight grandchildren, Augusta, Autumn, Rebecca, Nation, Brenden, Alana, Lane and Taylor; niece Brittany Dyches (Chris) of Union Point, GA;  other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, John Franklin “Sonny” Griffith in 2007.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669 with Dr. Terry Duvall and Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating.  The family will receive friends Monday, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.  Interment will be in the Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers are Michael Easton, Chris Dyches, Darryl Kitchens, Sandy Thornton, Ricky Duvall and Jimmy Thornton.  The family requests that any memorials be made to  St. Jude’s Children’s Research, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
