Mary Alice Gresham Torbert

Mary Alice Gresham Torbert, age 84, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Willow Run Retirement Home. She was born August 19, 1922 to the late Clarence Watson Gresham and Rosa Lee Smith Gresham. She attended school in Sparta, Georgia and graduated from Woodville High School. She married Thomas Alden Torbert on May 21, 1943. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and also found time to help her husband in their grocery business.

In 1970 she began her long career as an Avon Representative which she continued until her death. She received many awards and was a member of the Avon President''s Club because of her sales record.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Alden Torbert in March of 1982; a son Alden Torbert; and a brother, Thomas Douglas Gresham. She is survived by her two daughters, Harriette T. Baynes and husband Jack of Dublin, Georgia and Gayle T. Tidwell and husband David of Eatonton, Georgia; six grandchildren, Rev. Mark Baynes and wife Dawn of Aberdeen, Scotland, Katy B. Smith and husband Kenny of Eatonton, Georgia, Paige Tidwell of Athens, Georgia, Allison Tidwell of Eatonton, Georgia, Amey Tidwell Montgomery and husband Scott of Eatonton, Georgia and Andy Tidwell of Guam; seven great grandchildren, Mary Ashton Smith, Paxton Smith, Kelsy Smith, Brayden Smith, Gideon Smith, Chase Montgomery and Sydney Montgomery of Eatonton, Georgia; sister-in-law, Mamie Helen Gresham of Statham, Georgia; niece, Lorraine Gresham of Statham, Georgia; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Greensboro with Rev. Michael Hardy and Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Alvin Dowdy, Gerald Torbert, David Torbert, Scott Baynes, Danny Wray, Kenneth George and Jeff Dowdy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night at the funeral home.
