Marion Felts Obituary

Marion Edgar Felts, Sr. of Greensboro, GA, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at his residence at the age of 84.  Born May 9, 1932 Marion was the only child of the late Wirt Marion Felts and Daisy Estelle Martin Felts.  He graduated from Russell High School in 1949 and later in life while raising his children, he graduated from Atlanta Christian College in 1974.  During the Korean War, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for two years and the Navy Reserve for four more years.  He married the former Shirley Joyce Miller on August 8, 1952.  His working career consisted of being the minister for Union Ridge Christian Church, Union Christian Church, Oak Grove Christian Church, Tennille Christian Church, Leland Christian Church, Miller’s Academy and Friendship Christian Church. Other churches that he served in numerous positions such  as Bible School Teacher, song leader, choir director and other positions of leadership were Jefferson Park Christian Church, Mableton Christian Church and Madison Christian Church.  He was a member of Madison Christian Church and the Chaplain and Adjutant of the Sons of the Confederate 942 Greene Rifles.  For 15 years he worked for the Atlanta Journal Constitution and was a member and president of the Atlanta Typographical Union No. 48, and secretary and treasurer of the Printer’s Chapel of the Atlanta Newspapers, Inc.  He served as a missionary at Central Christian College in San Luis Potsi, Mexico.  Other positions he held were secretary and treasurer of the South Cobb Lions Club, secretary and treasurer of the American Legion in Lannett, AL, volunteer fireman of the Clifton Dale Community and also for the Greshamville Community after moving to Greene County.  He had a lifelong love of the Lord, trains and fishing and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many.
    In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, Shirley Felts of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by his children, Rhonda Felts Wigley and husband Phillip, Renee Felts Garrett and husband Barry and Marion “Eddie” Felts, Jr. and wife Ginger; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.  
    Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Madison Christian Church, 1871 Atlanta Highway, Madison, GA 30650 with Minister Cory Thomas, Brother Alan Thames and Minister Dale Hutchins officiating.  Graveside Service will follow Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park, 6841 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, GA 30236.  Serving as pallbearers are Keith Kidd, Allan Brown, Barry Brown, Cliff Evans, Shane Felts, Jason King, Nathan Felts and Shane Tallman.  Honorary pallbearers are the Elders and Deacons that Marion served with at his former churches.  The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.  Any memorials may be made to Madison Christian Church.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
