Lola Mae Underwood Wagnon, age 100, of Union Point, GA, died Tuesday evening, January 29, 2008 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 12, 1907 in the Robinson Community, she was the daughter of the late George Andrew Underwood and Ruby Culbreath Underwood. She attended the Robinson Community School and graduated from Union Point High School. After high school she worked at Union Manufacturing in Union Point, GA for a number of years. On October 10, 1931 she married Fred Emory Wagnon and became a homemaker. Mrs. Wagnon was the oldest living member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where she was faithful and devoted until declining health prevented her attendance. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but the memory of a wonderful, sweet lady will always remain in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Emory Wagnon in April of 1986 and nine siblings, Ethel U. Townsend, Lottie U. Mooneyham, Mattie U. Carithers, Doris U. Andrews, Helen Underwood, Newton Underwood, Alton Underwood, George Underwood and an infant brother that died at birth.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Wagnon Hardy of Union Point, GA; a son, Wayne Wagnon and wife Estelle of Decatur, AL; sister, Elise U. Bagwell of Union Point, GA; grandchildren, Cindy Hardy Moore and husband Larry of Union Point, GA, Andrew Wagnon of Sulphur, LA, Bill Wagnon and wife Amy of Huntsville, AL and Bruce Wagnon and wife Lanah of Falkville, AL; great grandchildren, Lucas Moore, Megan Wagnon, Erin Wagnon, Justin Wagnon and Brittany Wagnon Cornhill; great great grandson, Destin Cornhill; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church with Rev. Reggie Haslett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Bruce Wagnon, Bill Wagnon, Robert Simpson, Jimmy Walker, Barry Walker and Bill Trentham. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home.
