Johnnie Satterfield, Sr Obituary

Johnnie “Buck” Satterfield, Sr., age 97, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Born in the Shiloh Community of Greene County on December 21, 1911 he was the son of the late John D. Satterfield and Maude Byce Satterfield. They moved to Athens where he went through sixth grade at Chase Elementary School and then he attended Penfield in the seventh and eighth grades. He married the former Rosa Mae McGinty on March 31, 1934. For a while he did cotton farming for Mr. Thompson and during the depression he worked in Texas driving a bus. He worked for Knox Brothers Lumber Company as a planer, went to work as a mechanic for J. B. Dolvin in 1945 at the Ford place which later became Roper Ford. He then worked for Bradley Pontiac in 1965 that became Smith Pontiac Chevrolet Buick. He returned to Greensboro Ford where he retired in 1986. Buck was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro where he attended Evans Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Mae McGinty Satterfield, on April 20, 1999. He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Durden of Greensboro, GA, Ann Ivey and husband Matt of Milledgeville, GA and Judy Nichols and husband Ed of Clarksville, GA; a son, Johnnie Satterfield, Jr. and wife Jane of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Margie Simpson of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Michael Callaway, Rodney (Pam) Ellison, Nicole (Keith) Henderson, Andriette Elder, Alan (Elizabeth) Satterfield, Alison (Billy) Goss and John (Susan) Satterfield; great grandchildren, Michael Callaway, Marae Callaway, Tyler Ellison, Corey Ellison, Brandon Henderson, Amber Henderson, Jordan Elder, Austin Elder, Jake Elder, Mackenzie Satterfield, William Goss and Evan Satterfield; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Satterfield; and siblings, Lillie S. McGinty, Pauline LeBeauf, Riley Huffpower, Dorothy Parker, William Satterfield and two infants that died at birth. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the McCommons Chapel with Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip, Rev. Wayne Usry and Rev. Dr. James Choomack officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Alan Satterfield, John Satterfield, Billy Goss, Rodney Ellison, Keith Henderson and Michael Callaway. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service Thursday morning at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
