Jane Brown Obituary

Jane Martin Brown, age 93, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Willow Run Retirement Home where she had lived for the last year and a half. She was born in her grandfather''s house in Lancaster County, PA on November 16, 1911 to the late Robert Clarkson Martin and Maude Marie Hershey Martin. She lived in Parkesburg, PA until she left for college at West Chester State Teachers College in Pennsylvania. On August 18, 1934 she married Arthur Henry "Brownie" Brown, taught school for a few years, then became a homemaker to take care of her daughter Nancy Jane. After her husband died in December of 1977, she sold real estate for awhile and then moved to Florida in 1984. While in Florida she worked for Tricia''s Hallmark Shop as a Senior Sales Associate. In 1998 she was named the "Outstanding Older Worker for the State of Florida". She held a press conference with Gov. Jeb Bush in Tallahassee and was then flown to Washington, DC for five days of awards and parties. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro, the Sisterhood P.E.O. and an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church USA. She had been on the Board of Directors of the Y.W.C.A.; Chester County, PA, President of the Visiting Nurse Association; President of the Coatesville Hospital Auxiliary and was a champion golfer at both Coatesville Country Club in PA and at Monterey Yacht and Country Club in Stuart, FL.

She is survived by her dearly beloved daughter, Nancy Jane Brown Stevens and husband, Robert Arthur, "Bob", of Greensboro, GA; four grandchildren, Robert A. Stevens Jr. and wife Lynn of Atlanta, GA, James Douglas Stevens and wife Susan of Franklin, MI, Carey Jane Stevens Broadwater and husband Keith of Phoenix, AZ and Michael Brown Stevens and wife Sandy of South Riding, VA; seven great grandchildren, Joanna Lynn Stevens, Thomas J. Stevens, James D. Stevens Jr., Elizabeth Jane Stevens, Amanda Gail Stevens, Rachel Jean Stevens and Leah May Stevens; and three nephews, Lee M. Brown and wife Darlene, Roger Brown and wife Lynn, and Glenn Brown. A nephew Charles H. Brown died February 6, 2005, leaving his wife, Sally. Jane Martin Brown''s brother, John Hershey Martin, preceded her in death.

She was a strong Christian woman with a wonderful spirit, who will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
