James Russell Stratton
James Russell Stratton, age 69, of the Sandy Cross Community of Taliaferro County, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Greene Point Health Care and Rehabilitation. He was born in Clarke County, June 16, 1945 to the late James Melvin Stratton and Gladys Brooks Stratton. He attended school in Lexington, Georgia. On October 19, 1968 he married the former Miriam Claire Edwards of Crawfordville, Georgia. After nearly fifty years of service, Mr. Stratton retired from Chipman Union Hosiery in Union Point, Georgia as a fork lift operator. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point where he served as a deacon and a member of Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed hunting and loved his country and gospel music, especially George Jones.
Survivors include his wife of forty-six years, Claire Edwards Stratton of the Sandy Cross Community; children, Melanie Boatwright of Lexington, GA, Susan Yearwood and husband Mark of Crawfordville, GA, and Edward Stratton and wife Brittany of Washington, GA; grandchildren, Carmen Echols and husband Brandon, Rachel Yearwood, Rebecca Hannis and husband Ceth, Ethan Yearwood, Aaron Yearwood, Jakob Stratton and Ryan Stratton; sister, Kathy Howard and husband Ricky of Washington, GA; a number of other relatives and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Stratton; and a sister, Melda Ballard.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Cliffords Grove Baptist Church, 3678 Lundburg Road, Washington, GA 30673 with Rev. Terry Casper officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Randy Flemming, Ethan Yearwood, Randy Boatwright, Tony Howard, Jeremy Edwards, Clint Edwards, Shawn Wiggins, and Frankie Combs. Honorary pallbearers will be Franklin Combs, Gerald Drinkard, Ricky Howard, Johnny McCannon, Melvin Edwards, Emmett Whelchel, Crayton Young and Tony Stratton.
