John George Callahan

John George “Jack” Callahan, age 67, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro. Jack was born in Concord, New Hampshire on August 20, 1947, the only child of the late John Henry Callahan and Mary Elizabeth Dennerly Callahan.  He graduated from Concord High School in New Hampshire, attended New Hampshire Technical Institute and received a Masters of Business Administration Degree from the University of New Hampshire.  He served his country in the United States Army as a missile technician in Europe. On August 19, 1972 he married the former Barbara Grace Guyotte.  During his working career, he worked for Northeast Electronics in Concord, New Hampshire, Northern Telecom in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Accenture in Atlanta, Georgia and retired in 2005.

Jack and Barbara moved to their home on Lake Oconee in 2003. Jack and his wife travelled extensively on many cruises, visiting over thirty countries.  Jack gave back to his community through volunteering in various ways and had many accomplishments.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Old Salem Fire and Rescue and was a two-term president of the Port Armor North Homeowners Association.  Jack was an active and faithful member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church (COKAS).  Jack was the COKAS webmaster, president of the Parish Pastoral Council, member of COKAS Transitional Planning Group and the chairperson of the Giving Back to the Community Golf Tournament for seven years.  Jack was a former President and caseworker for the COKAS St. Vincent de Paul Conference.  Among his many contributions to St. Vincent de Paul, he served as President of District 7 and was on the Board of Directors for St. Vincent de Paul Georgia.  Jack was a 4th Degree Knight, served as the Communications Director for the Knights of Columbus Charities of Georgia and was the Treasurer for the Knights of Columbus Council 13808.  Jack touched many members of the community; he and Barbara were the recipients of the Knights of Columbus Atlanta Archdiocese Family of the Year Award in 2014.

In addition to his wife Barbara of Greensboro, Georgia, he is survived by three sons, Douglas Callahan of Buford, Georgia, Christopher Callahan of St. Louis, Missouri and Michael Callahan and daughter in law Allison of Marietta, Georgia; two granddaughters, Grace and Megan Callahan and their mother, Audrey Callahan; two grandsons, Jack and Brody Callahan and their mother Sandra O’Neil-Callahan.  Michael and Allison are welcoming Piper Jacklyn Callahan, Jack’s fifth grandchild, in September.

A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Father Roberto Herrera officiating.  The Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers.  Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday night at McCommons Funeral Home.  The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to St. Vincent de Paul Conference, c/o Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
