Horace Harwell, Jr Obituary

Horace Gary Harwell, Jr., 48, of the Liberty Community, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. A lifelong resident of Greene County, Georgia he was born on May 17, 1960 to Horace G. Harwell, Sr of Greensboro, GA and the late Lou Ellen Webb Harwell. He attended Nathanael Greene Academy and was a 1979 graduate of Greene County High School. He married Caren Gentry on April 5, 1986. He was a photographer for the Herald Journal, worked for Hometown Manufacturing and Sara Lee. His most recent job was working in facilities maintenance at Reynolds Plantation for the last ten years. He was a faithful member of Liberty United Methodist Church of White Plains and served as a volunteer for the Liberty Fire Department since its inception. He enjoyed photography, playing paintball, hunting and was a gun enthusiast. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and friends, and especially spending time with his sons with whom he shared these adventures.

Horace is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Caren Gentry Harwell of the Liberty Community; two sons, John Harwell and Trey Harwell of the Liberty Community, his dad, Horace G. Harwell, Sr.; a sister Kathy Ivey and husband James of Dublin, GA; a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by the mother who raised him, Lucretia Harwell.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Edward A. Swehla and Rev. Richard Chewning officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Johnny Hester, Keith Moody, Scott Parrish, Alan Garland, Jim Foster and Joseph Stanford. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday night at the Funeral Home.
