George Albert Cooke
George Albert Cooke, of Madison, GA, died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the age of 74. George was born in Fredericksburg, VA on April 14, 1941 to the late George Albert Alla Cooke of Marietta, OH and the late Ruth Harriet Perrine Cooke Whitmore of Sharpsville, PA. In 1962 he graduated from Johns Hopkins University and went on to earned an MBA from Loyola University in Baltimore, MD in 1970 as well as studying at the prestigious Stonier Graduate School of Banking. On May 18, 1962 he married Constance Ruth Baumann in Annapolis, MD. He enjoyed a long and successful career in investment banking and insurance, retiring in 2002 as the Chief Financial Officer of Alexander Hamilton Life Insurance Company. George was an active leader in the community serving many posts with the Boy Scouts and as a member of Big Brothers. Among his many interests he was a marathon runner winning numerous awards from marathons around the world. He also enjoyed reading, gardening, camping and music. Five years ago he retired to Madison, GA, where he was a member of Madison First United Methodist Church. His generosity and bright personality blessed everyone around him and he will truly be missed by family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Connie Cooke of Madison, GA, he is survived by two sons, George Albert Cooke Jr and wife Bonnie of Atlanta, GA; Michael Kenneth Cooke and wife Lisa of San Mateo, CA; brother Stephen Dean Cooke of Buckhead, GA; two grandsons, Tristan James Cooke of Atlanta, GA; Kyle Anderson Cooke of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Isabella Marilyn Cooke of San Mateo, CA; and cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Eve Lorralne Tapia of Brentwood, TN; and step-father, James Whitmore of Roswell, GA.
The family will have a celebration of his life on Saturday, February 27th at 1:00 pm at Madison First United Church in Madison, GA.
