Elliott LeRoy Slocum, age 72, of Greensboro, GA, died Monday, October 28, 2013 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Elliott was born in Monroe, LA on December 27, 1940 to the late Oliver Norwood Slocum and Estelle Malone Slocum. After graduating from Louisiana Tech University, Elliott received his Masters Degree and PhD in Accounting from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Elliott was a professor of accounting at Georgia State University for 36 years retiring in 2003. Elliott was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, Beta Alpha Psi, Phi Kappa Phi- National Honor Society, American Accounting Association (IMA) and the Stewart McCloud Society. On June 4, 1964 Elliot married the former Lois Ileane Twyford. Reading, gardening and collecting coins were some of his favorite pastimes. He has lived in Greene County since 1990.
Elliott is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ileane Slocum of Greensboro, GA; sons Brian Norwood Slocum and wife Irene of Norcross, GA and Christopher Elliot Slocum of Cloquet, MN; sisters, Norma Jean Slocum Berry and husband Carl of Gainesville, GA and Barbara Ann Slocum Barnes and husband Edward of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren; Zachery Maxwell Slocum, Sean Jamel Slocum, Sinead Estelle Rume Slocum and Brian Tiernan Oromuromo Slocum. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Eugene Slocum and sister Floye Charlotte Slocum.
A Funeral service will be held on Thursday October 31, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held, Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Aulds Chapel Church Cemetery, 174 Aulds Chapel Road, Downsville, LA 71234.
