Edward Eugene Corry, Jr., age 75, of Union Point, Georgia, died on Friday, January 26, 2007 at Morgan Memorial Hospital. Son of the late Edward Eugene Corry, Sr. and Clara Nash Corry, Ed was born on February 1, 1931 in Philomath in Wilkes County. He graduated from Union Point High School and Piedmont College where he majored in Biology and Physical Education. He received his Masters and Specialists degrees in Education Leadership from the University of Georgia. Serving in the United States Army, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was devoted to his career in education and retired in 1992 as the Greene County School Superintendent. He was a member of the Greene County Rotary Club, Union Point Lions Club, Greene County Library Board, Greene County and Lake Oconee Development Authority and the American Legion. He was a loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point, GA where he served as an elder and in many other capacities. Mr. Corry will be remembered for his dedication to education and his love for the children of Greene County.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Sorrow Corry of Union Point, GA; two sons, Edward E. Corry, III and wife Debbie and their children Lindsay and Lauren of Hobe Sound, FL and Samuel F. Corry of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Douglas Corry of Adairsville, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, January 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Union Point with the Rev. Dr. James Choomack, Jr. and Rev. Stephen Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point. Serving as pallbearers are William Crutchfield and elders of the church, Dave Heffner, Tim Bramlett, Lanier Rhodes, W. H. Rhodes Jr., Sibley Bryan and J. Boswell. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Taylor, Evans Acree, Tom Haynes, John Osborne and elders of the church, Paulette George, Joyce Heffner, Carol Bramlett and Nancy Sanderson. The family requests that any memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 201 Veazey Street, Union Point, GA 30669.
