Donald Lewis Avara, age 73, of Crawfordville, Georgia, died on Thursday, August 29, 2013. Born in Napa, California on August 5, 1940 he was the son of the late James Lewis Avara and Cathryn Aline Eaton Avara. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served proudly for four years. On December 16, 1985, he married the former Trudy Smith and in 1989 they moved to Crawfordville from Gwinnett County. He was a brick mason and worked for Apache Masonry in Macon, Georgia. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
In addition to his wife, Trudy Avara of Crawfordville, Georgia, he is survived by three sons, David Smith (Rachel) of Milner, Georgia, Leroy McCollum of Crawfordville, Georgia and Daryl McCollum of Athens, Georgia; a daughter, Sheila "Sissy" Smith (Bruce) of Washington, Georgia; a brother, Rex Avara of Livermore, California; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a number of other relatives and many friends.
