Dino Secundo Villa

Dino Secundo Villa passed away February 1, 2014, five weeks and three days short of his 94th birthday.  He was born in Greenwich Village in New York City, almost in the shadow of the Washington Square Monument.  Born on March 11, 1920, he was the only child of Antonella Maria Marzocchi Villa and Augusto Enrico Villa.  He was named in honor of his paternal grandfather, Secundo Villa.  Dino attended PS 95 elementary school and then went to DeWitt Clinton High School in the upper Bronx.  There he competed for and won a scholarship to Cornell University where he studied economics and statistics.  Upon graduation, Dino joined the Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census in Suitland Maryland.  He was soon called to service by the Naval Bureau of Personnel in Washington DC to serve as Classification Officer at the Naval Training Base in Williamsburg, Virginia.  At the conclusion of World War II, he returned to Maryland and the Bureau of the Census.

In 1949 Dino met Christine Ceva of Mount Vernon, NY and they were married on April 15, 1950.  They lived in Tantallon on The Potomac in Maryland, a suburb of Washington DC .  Dino and Christine  had two sons, Christopher Dean and Richard Roy.  In 1972 Dino resigned from Government Service as Deputy Associate Director of the Bureau of the Census to care for his wife, Christine.  She died of breast cancer on November 22, 1974.  

Dino met Lyda Busby in 1975 and they married in April 1976.  In 1978 they moved to Boca Raton, FL and joined Lighthouse Point Yacht and Racket Club.  Dino served as the Master of Ceremony for many of their bi-annual musical production “Putting on the Hits.”  A “senior” citizen himself, he taught computer classes to other seniors, dabbled in real estate, was an extra in several television shows and traveled extensively.  Dino started painting in his 70’s, without  lessons, and has quite an impressive portfolio. One of his personal favorites is a portrait of his grandson, Mark, at age 11.

After the death of his second wife in March 2010, Dino moved to Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, GA where he lived with his son and daughter in law, Chris and Mona Villa.  Dino enjoyed monthly visits from his son Rick as well as occasional visits from other family members.  He is survived by two sons, Chris Villa and his wife Mona of Greensboro, GA and Rick Villa of Laurel, MD and one grandson, Mark Trinchitella of Ft Myers, FL.
 
Visitation is February 17, 2014 from 5PM to 7PM at McCommon’s Funeral Home, Greensboro GA.  Memorial Service is February 18, 2014 at 11AM at Lake Oconee Community Church, 6350 Lake Oconee Parkway, with reception following the ceremony.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Lake Oconee Community Church Youth Alliance, 6350 Lake Oconee Parkway, PMB 180, Greensboro GA  30642.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
