Dickie Jerome “D. J.” Epps, age 61, of Greensboro, GA, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Newton Medical Center in Covington. Born in Clarke County on February 27, 1944 he was the son of Thomas Jerome Epps and the late Ernestine Sullivan Epps. He attended Athens High School and was a member of Edwards Chapel Baptist Church in Athens. D. J. was a machinist for Nibco and before that he ran a welding shop with Goodwin Russell at the old Ice Plant. Some of his hobbies were riding his motorcycle, shooting guns, hunting and fishing. But his favorite thing was to be with his grandchildren that he loved so much.
In addition to his father he is survived by his wife, Jane Burke Epps of Greensboro, GA; a son, Justin Epps and wife Rebecca of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Linda Morgan of Colbert, GA; a brother, Dwain Epps of Winterville, GA; four grandchildren, Lanie Epps, Tristan Epps, Richard Burton and Dustin Newsome; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro with Rev. Dr. Ford G’Segner officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Dustin Newsome, Richard Burton, Kenny Kellum, Dwain Epps, Al Kelver, Keith Martin, Herbert Rhodes and Lee Roy Perdue. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Parker and Rusty Gober. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home.
