David Francis Murphy
David Francis Murphy, of Greensboro, GA, passed away at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, GA on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the age of 75. Born in Rochester, NY on May 9, 1941, he was the son of the late Francis and Helen Mambretti Murphy. David attended Aquinas High School in Rochester, NY. He graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology, where he met the former Nancy Marie Ritz. They married on September 14, 1963 and raised a family in Pittsford, NY. Dave and Nancy also lived in the Outer Banks and Charlotte, North Carolina, where they spent many happy years. In 2014 they moved to Greensboro, GA by Lake Oconee.
Dave was very involved in each of these communities. He volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club and was an active member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro, GA, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired in 2016 as owner of Murphy Appraisal Service. David was an avid tennis enthusiast, and also enjoyed bridge, euchre and travel.
In addition to his wife of fifty-three years, Nancy Marie Ritz Murphy of Greensboro, GA, David is survived by his daughter, Kristin Harris of Leesburgh, VA; two sons, Scott Murphy (Glen) of Suwanee, GA and Kevin Murphy (Karen) of Destin, FL; four grandchildren, Grant, Emma, Jordan, David and many friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017, at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642. Father Young will officiate the service, and the Knights of Columbus will serve as honorary pallbearers. A reception at the church will follow the service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, attendees consider a donation in David’s honor to the Knights of Columbus, c/o Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642.
