Eileen Smith Roper
Daisy Eileen Smith Roper, age 99, of Greensboro, GA formerly of Cullman and Arab, Alabama, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017 at Savannah Court of Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA. Born in Cullman, Alabama on September 22, 1917 she was one of nine children of the late Russell Jones Smith and Savannah Roseann Smith. Eileen worked at the Arab Alabama Blue Bell Garment Factory, helped her husband in several businesses and retired from Roper Furniture in Arab. She lived in Cullman and Marshall counties in Alabama for 91 years before moving to Greensboro, Georgia to be nearer to family. She was a lifelong member of Lystra Baptist Church of Baileyton AL and was an avid gardener. She was always thrilled to be visited by grandkids and great grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wilton “Buck” Roper: and all of her siblings, Dilmus Lionel Smith, William Albert Smith, Marvin Campbell Smith, Russell Hiram Claude Smith, Adolphus Darvin Smith, Minnie Odessa Guess, Nodie Magnolia Fowler and Winnie Mae Reynolds. She is survived by a son, Jimmy Franklin Roper and his wife Betty Bobo Roper of Greensboro, GA; two grandchildren, Alicia Roper Korich of Norcross, GA and Joel Christopher Roper of Plano, TX; five great grandchildren, Haley Elaine, Hayden Pierce and Holly Nicole Roper of Plano, TX and Jordan Bao Lynn and Alexander Validimir Korich of Norcross, GA; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, 1340 N. Main Street, Arab, AL 35016. Serving as pallbearers will be David Bobo and Joel Roper. Interment will follow at Arab Memorial Cemetery, Arab, AL 35016. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service on Friday morning. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
