Carolyn Lewis McCorvey, 71, of McDonough, GA, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at her lake residence in White Plains, GA surrounded by her loving family and caregiver. Born on December 30, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Howard Tally Lewis and and Austell Johnson Lewis. She graduated from Sparta High School, attended Reinhart College, and later graduated from Georgia Baptist School of Nursing. She began her nursing career in Atlanta, then married in 1959 and became a homemaker raising her two daughters. Later she went back to work as a school nurse in Sparta, the nursing home in Sparta, and area hospitals until 1971. In addition to caring for her family, loved ones and pets, she loved fishing, hunting, crafting, sewing, reading, sports, music and especially travelling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Benton McCorvey on January 11, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Sheri Corriher and husband Michael Corriher of White Plains, GA and Lisa Shaffer and husband Lee Shaffer, Sr. of McDonough, GA; stepson Todd McCorvey and wife Eileen of Augusta, GA; stepdaughter Tracey and husband Mike Hauversburk of Panama City Beach, FL grandchildren, Venus Corriher, Crystal Corriher, Amanda Corriher, Candace Shaffer, Richard Lee Shaffer Jr, Brenton McCorvey, Devon McCorvey, Grace McCorvey, Jake Hauversburk; a great granddaughter, Caitlyn Rebecca Young; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3091 Liberty Church Road, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Edward A. Swehla officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Lee Shaffer Sr., Lee Shaffer Jr., Mike Corriher, Dennis Corriher, Ben Harwell and Rod Ayers.
