Bobby Joe Harris, age 73, of Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia, died on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Putnam General Hospital. Son of the late Roy Harris and Bettie Warden Harris, B. J. was born on May 17, 1936, in Rural Hall, North Carolina. He grew up in North Carolina, and graduated from Duke University in Durham with a degree in Business Administration. While at Duke, he was an All-American basketball player, captain of the team his senior year and a member of the ROTC. After college he began his long career as an insurance agent and financial planner for Mutual of New York "MONY" now known as AXA Financial, Inc. He lived for fifteen years in Westport, CT while working in Manhattan. Upon retirement in 1995, he moved to Bonita Bay in Bonita Springs, FL and then in 2005 moved to Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee. He enjoyed golfing and was interested in sports throughout his life. He was a member of the Lake Oconee Community Church.
B.J. is survived by his wife, Emily Paschal Harris of Greensboro, GA, whom he married in 1968; a daughter, Dawn Kennedy and husband Jeff of Wake Forest, NC; a son Alan Harris and wife Rina of Charlotte, NC; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey Kennedy, Courtney Kennedy, Allan Thomas, Casey Harris and Hunter Dotson; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Thomas Dotson; and a brother, Roy Lee Harris.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Pavilion in Reynolds Plantation with Rev. David Key officiating.
