Billy Wayne Branyan, 71, of Union Point, GA died Friday, May 25, 2012 at Athens Regional Medical Center. A native of Greene County he was born June 24, 1940 in White Plains, GA to the late Oles Dee Branyan and Bernice Estelle Cook Branyan Ruff. He attended school in Woodville, GA and completed high school in the military. He entered the United States Air Force when he was seventeen and proudly served his country for four years as an Air Force fireman. After his honorary discharge, he worked for Chipman Union as a machine fixer for ten years and then worked seventeen years for the railroad as a track inspector. His many hobbies were fishing, hunting, wood working, gardening, bird watching, drinking coffee every morning and sitting on his back porch. As a child Billy attended Woodville Baptist Church.
He is survived by four children, Denise Peugh and husband Jimmy of Greensboro, GA, Stacey Golden and husband Troy of Haslet, TX, Tim Branyan and wife Julie of Union Point, GA and Pat Branyan of Woodville, GA; two sisters, Joann Whitten of O''Fallen, IL and Cindy B. Sellers of Woodville, GA; three brothers, Keith Branyan of Woodville, GA, Randy Branyan of Greensboro, GA and Donald "Donnie" Branyan of High Shoals, GA; grandchildren, Lindsey B. Stone and husband Keith, April B. Rhoades and husband Dustin, Dylan Golden, John Hinton Branyan, Pete Peugh and J. B. Peugh; great grandchildren, Hadley Claire Stone and Berkley Lynn Rhoades; a number of nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Flossie Burns; a brother, W. G. "Dub" Branyan; and a grandson, Elijah Edward Peugh.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodville Cemetery, 1110 Hickory Circle, Woodville, GA 30669 with Rev. Mark Yearwood officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Keith Yearwood, Tim Harrison, Lee Yearwood, Doug Huff, Brian Vaughn and Matt Branyan. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Swann, Richard Dingler and J. T. Allen. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday night at Callaway Funeral Home in Union Point.
