Beverly Carlene Brisendine McCommons

Beverly Carlene Brisendine McCommons, age 79, of Greensboro, GA died Thursday, June 29, 2006 at her daughter''s home in Oxford, GA. Born in Atlanta, GA on February 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Carl Paschal Brisendine and Margaret Irene Doolittle Brisendine. Carlene''s father worked for Life of Georgia and his job brought them to Greensboro when she was seven. She attended first and second grade in Athens, GA and in 1943 she graduated from Greensboro High School. In 1946 she received a degree in English Education and a minor in Library Science and Art from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. In August of that year, she married Deeta McCommons of Greensboro. In 1959 they bought Ducaro Hall and spent the next eighteen years remodeling room by room with Carlene doing the interior decorating. When Nathanael Greene Academy was established in 1969, she taught seventh grade for two years and at various times worked part-time jobs at Greensboro High School as the Librarian, Callaway Sales and Greene County Farm Bureau. At different times they raised calves, hogs, turkeys and chickens on their farm. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro, Greensboro Garden Club and played bridge until she was seventy-five.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Dutton "Deeta" McCommons in December of 2004 and an infant sister, Margaret E. Brisendine in March of 1948. She is survived by a daughter, Rosalyn M. "Winkle" Shrader and husband Robert of Oxford, GA; two sons, Roger "Roddy" McCommons and wife Barbara of Dallas, GA and Ross "Red Hoss" McCommons and wife Beth of Greensboro, GA; nine grandchildren, Amy Pritchett and husband Mike of Lakeview, AL, Christi O''Neal and husband Mark of Rome, GA, Daniel McCain and Katie McCain of Oxford, GA, Jeremy McCain and wife Jennifer of McDonough, GA, Shaun McCommons and Amber McCommons of Greensboro, GA, Robert Shrader Jr. and wife Suzanne and Christopher Shrader of Covington, GA; a great granddaughter, Gwendolyn Pritchett of Lakeview, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. Interment will follow in Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are grandsons, Daniel McCain, Jeremy McCain, Shaun McCommons, Robert Shrader Jr., Christopher Shrader and Mark O''Neal. Honorary pallbearers are Ken West, Adrian Rimes, Harold Glass, Bobby Durham, Darrel Phelps, Matthew Yearwood, Bill Rhodes Jr., Chris Adams and Doug Webb.
