Austin Andrew Christensen

Austin Andrew Christensen, age 90, of Greensboro, GA, formerly of Seward, NE died Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro.  He was born on June 4, 1925, in Omaha, NE to the late Andre Nils Christensen and Olga Munson Christensen.  He married Jane Carroll on July 7, 1956 and they had two sons.  Austin graduated from Bennington High School in Nebraska and continued his education, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from Iowa State and his Master’s Degree from Colorado College. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines.  He was a classroom teacher and educator for many years in Social Studies and the World’s Great Religions.  During his working career in Colorado, he also served as a Soccer Coach and Referee.  Austin retired in 2002 after thirty years of teaching.  Two years ago he moved from Seward, NE to Lake Oconee to live with his son and family.  While living in Greensboro he attended Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church.  Austin was a collector of Volvo cars.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Jane Carroll Christensen, two sons Andy Christensen and wife Julie of Seward, NE; and Mark Christensen and wife Jane of Greensboro, GA; brother, Milton Christensen of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren, Kelsey, Kenzie, Callen, Zander, Beckett and Aven Christensen; other relatives and friends.

The family will hold a memorial service and burial at a later date in Nebraska.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorials be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
