Asa Slaughter Obituary

Asa Candler Slaughter, 86, of Watkinsville, GA died Tuesday, December 10, 2002. Born June 6, 1916 in Clarke County, he was the son of the late Wilson McClarty Slaughter and Willey Holland Slaughter. After graduating from Clarke County High School, he worked for Rodgers Hosiery Mill in Athens as a knitter. During WWII, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the European Theatre. When he came home from the war he was employed by Westinghouse as a machinist. Mr. Slaughter was a member of Young Harris United Methodist Church but had attended Antioch Christian Church for the past six years. He was also a member of Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 22, Veterans of Foreign Wars Mitchell-Fields Post No. 2872 and for a number of years was a Red Cross volunteer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Pittman Slaughter, in November of 1998. He is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, extended family members and friends.
